GENERAL MANAGER
Salary: £36,000-£38,000 + Tips (circa £3500) + commission bonuses
Hours: 4 day working week
Start date: June 2025
Are you a passionate and experienced hospitality professional ready to take the lead in a thriving gastropub? We’re looking for an exceptional General Manager to join our team and drive our business forward. This role is unique in that you will typically only work 4 day weeks with condensed hours.
About Us
Kite at The Red hart is a thriving gastropub in the heart of Hitchin, known for our high-quality food, excellent service, and welcoming atmosphere. We take pride in offering seasonal, locally sourced dishes, an exciting drinks selection, and a friendly environment for both locals and visitors alike.
The Role
As General Manager, you will be responsible for the overall operation of the gastropub, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, driving sales, and leading a passionate team. As well as this, you will be responsible for managing our popular private hire operations in the pub, overseeing events including weddings, birthdays and live music.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Overseeing daily operations, ensuring smooth service and a high standard of hospitality.
Managing and motivating the team, providing leadership and training to create a positive working environment.
Driving sales and profitability, implementing strategies to maximise revenue and control costs.
Maintaining strong customer relationships with our regulars and ensuring guest satisfaction.
Ensuring compliance with health and safety, licensing, and food hygiene regulations.
Managing stock levels, suppliers, and ordering processes efficiently.
Handling financial reporting, budgeting, and P&L management.
Handle guest inquiries and complaints with professionalism, striving for resolution and satisfaction.
Collaborate with marketing teams to promote events and special offerings within the establishment
Overseeing private hire operations: managing inbound enquiries and events
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
Has proven experience in a management role within the hospitality industry, ideally in a gastropub or restaurant setting.
Is a natural leader, able to inspire and develop a high-performing team.
Is customer-focused, with a passion for delivering outstanding service.
Thrives in a fast-paced environment and is highly organised.
Has a keen eye for food and drink trends and a passion for great hospitality.
Holds relevant food safety and licensing qualifications (or is willing to obtain them).
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a customer-focused mindset.
